What Ofsted have to say about WIKI in schools

“Reading has a high priority. Pupils who find reading difficult receive the support that they need to help them read successfully. The trust’s ‘WIKI’ vocabulary prompts have helped raise the profile of literacy across the curriculum. As such, many pupils read frequently”
“Staff work with precision to help pupils to become confident and fluent readers. The school swiftly identifies pupils’ reading needs as soon as they start at the school in Year 10. It ensures that pupils catch up quickly by closing any gaps that they have in their phonics knowledge.”
“Reading is of utmost importance across the school. Staff identify any gaps in pupils’ reading knowledge accurately. These pupils receive targeted support to help them to catch up quickly. As a result, pupils become fluent and confident readers.
“The school recognises that reading is a barrier to learning for some pupils. Those pupils who struggle the most with reading receive support from expert staff to help them to catch up with their peers.

What Staff have to say about WIKI

Using WIKI has been a highly impactful learning resource for my KS3 students. I have set the learning of prefixes and root words (5 at a time) for homework and tested them repeatedly in entry tasks, as exit tickets and as part of homework checks. The results are improved accuracy in spelling and an increased confidence when decoding meaning. Students really enjoy it too! It’s manageable for them, measurable for me and, with little effort, they can make noticeable progress.

WIKI literacy interventions are strongly recommended because they create a consistent, accessible whole‑school universal offer while providing a clear, evidence‑based pathway for SEND escalation that genuinely improves outcomes for learners. This ensures pupils with emerging needs are supported promptly and systematically.

I absolutely love running the WIKI intervention with my Year 7s. The structured sessions and perfectly organised resources make my life so much easier as a TA3 everything is just ready to go. The bespoke bookmarks are a brilliant touch and such a fab resource for helping the students get to grips with new vocabulary.

I've seen a massive difference in how they decode, spell, and actually understand words, and it has given the students so much confidence in their own abilities. Because I support these students in the classroom as well as delivering the weekly intervention, I get to see firsthand how much WIKI helps them in their main lessons. It’s incredibly rewarding to see that progress and self-assurance carry over directly into their everyday learning. Honestly, the program is fabulous, and the support from the WIKI team is invaluable.

WIKI strategies make a strong foundation in the science classroom. Focusing on the root words before exploring key vocabulary helps students in their understanding of words and how to apply them in context. Our consistent approach to WIKI has benefited the students’ ability to break down scientific tier 3 vocabulary independently which is great to see. WIKI Wednesday includes a variety of scientific vocabulary which I can then deepen the knowledge of much more efficiently with the base already being present leading to a higher quality response from students.
